Season Recap

The Oregon State Beavers had a nightmare of a season going 3-9 and the perennial bowl bound Beavers failed to make it to a bowl game for the 2nd straight season.

The Beavers were shocked in the first game of the season losing to Sacramento State and things just kept getting worse, as they lost their next 3 games.

They got their first win of the season beating Arizona in their 5th game and besides sweeping the teams from Washington they lost the rest of their games. OSU lost badly to all 3 ranked teams they faced this season in Wisconsin, Stanford, and Oregon in the Civil War game.

The best win of the season for the Beavers had to be against bowl bound Washington in their 2nd to last game of the season.

In that game the Beavers scored 38 points and QB Sean Mannion passed for 339 yards with 2 TD and the OSU defense played well and forced 3 turnovers.

Oregon State Football - Season Recap

While Oregon State endured a terrible season there is hope for the Beavers next season. Freshman QB Sean Mannion guided the Beavers and their 18th ranked passing offense and because of his performance in a 44-21 win over Washington State he earned Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Week.

He will return as will his main target of Markus Wheaton, who caught 73 balls for 986 yards and 1 TD. However, his 2nd main target in James Rodgers will be gone since this was his senior season.

The Oregon State Beavers only ranked 118th out of 120 FBS teams in rushing yards per game, but one of the main reasons they struggled is that lead back Malcolm Agnew missed 6 games.

He will be returning, as he was only a freshman this season and when he was healthy he was solid averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Top RB recruit Chris Brown will join him in the backfield next season.

Not only are Mannion, Agnew, and Wheaton returning, but the offensive line may be better since the Beavers are bringing in 3 offensive lineman that are top recruits.

The concerns for the Beavers next season have to be Agnew’s heath and the defense.

Overall, the OSU defense ranked 83rd in the nation and their run defense was really bad ranking 101st in the nation.

They do not have any big name recruits on the defensive side of the ball yet, but have some solid guys coming in.

The Beavers have the tools on offense to turn things around next season, but Agnew has to stay on the field and the defense needs a lot of improvement.
